We’re so proud and thrilled that The King of Jam Sandwiches by Eric Walters was the winner of the 2020 Governor General’s Literary Award for Young People’s Literature – Text!
“The King of Jam Sandwiches pulls us into the unforgettable friendship of hard-working Robbie and tough-as-nails Harmony in an exceptionally honest survival story that is also compulsively readable and emotionally gripping. Walters has written a heart-wrenching novel about what it is like to grow up amidst poverty and mental illness, one that speaks to contemporary young readers and offers them hope.”

Quill & Quire: GG Winners Circle: Eric Walters (Young people’s literature – text)
“This book is so much a part of who I am. Just like the main character Robbie, I really believed that if I got up earlier than everybody every single day and worked harder and longer than everybody else, then I could get somewhere. That’s been my ongoing life passage. And I always knew everything was going to work out, and I believe that continually. What’s that saying – if you haven’t reached a happy ending, it’s obviously not the ending. We just keep moving forward.”
