Charles’ first board book with Orca, A Carnival of Cats, launched on September 1st, 2015.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background as an author?

First off, I am thrilled to be writing books for Orca! I’ve written more than 100 books and many of them are populated with cats and dogs. I was so happy to create this new carnival of cats for Orca this year! And what a treat to follow-up on this crazy carnival of guessing fun with another new book next year, a book filled with a bunch of playful puppies on parade.

What’s the most glamorous part of being an author?

Being an author is like being a collector of magic carpets. Everything time I write a new book it takes me places I’ve never been before. My books have taken me all over the world to meet new people in new places. I’ve been lucky to visit with children from Canada to Florida, from California to New York, from Alaska to France, from Alabama to South America and beyond!

What do you love most about writing?

I love writing for kids! I especially love writing board books and picture books! The joyous power of those first books helps turn young listeners into readers and readers into writers. Those books also help children celebrate the joy and wonder of their world. Humorous books tickle the funny bone of their imaginations!
