Little You is a beautiful new board book from Orca that has already made a big splash! Richard Van Camp, bestselling author of the hugely successful Welcome Song for Baby: A Lullaby for Newborns, has joined forces with award-winning illustrator Julie Flett to create a tender and visually stunning board book that celebrates the potential of every child. Little You, like Welcome Song for Baby, has been selected for the BC Books for Babies program, and will also be given to every newborn in Edmonton by the Edmonton Public Library this year.
And now, Little You will be available to even more little ones! In support of aboriginal language programs in schools and communities, Orca has partnered with The South Slave Divisional Education Council to produce translations of the book in South Slavey, Chipewyan and Bush Cree. Brent Kaulback, Assistant Superintendent of SSDEC notes that “this book is one of a growing collection of children’s books published in these aboriginal languages…Our plan is to distribute Little You to newborns as part of our baby book program thus ensuring that a quality book in these aboriginal languages will be part of the baby’s first reading experience. We hope that this book will serve as catalyst for parents and their children to connect with their ancestral language together in a shared family experience.”
